wait for it.....
NBC's new TV show: Grimm, set and filmed in/around Portland, Oregon. says the girl who doesn't watch TV and the house sit i'm in doesn't have cable. so i had to do my homework on HULU.com - online TV for free. and i have to say, i might just be a little more scared to hike on oregon trails now....ha, ha.
some friends and i answered a craigslist application to be extras on the show....i got the call the same night...GULP. i thought it was a joke when she called, and she called me twice for two call times wednesday and thursday, like yesterday and the day before. i was told i would be playing an extra as a detective and to bring my best business looking attire with a trench coat. no problem i said. why YES, i do own two trench coats...ha. i was in target running errands when she called. i had to contain my shock and excitement because of customers and i carefully picked my jaw up off the ground and went on my way.

my props, which are very real. too bad i couldn't keep the badge.
the first day started at 11am. the calls can go from 5 minutes on the set to 15 hours on the set. the reason i know this is because mine was the latter of the two. i spent FIFTEEN hours on the set of Grimm on my very first day. GULP. and i didn't even play detective. i was asked to be a stand in for two characters. a stand in simply takes the place of the main character while the crew, director, producer, etc is getting the shot just right....allowing the main characters to rest, etc. this allows all stand ins full set access, meeting and seeing main actors, etc. and let me tell you, for my first experience as a stand in...the cast and crew were amazingly awesome, kind, laid back and simply super cool.

David Giuntoli.

Russell Hornsby.

Bitsie Tulloch.

Silas Weir Mitchell
these were the actors i was allowed to see on set during my stand in time on the FIRST day.
the SECOND day was only 7 hours and only 3 of the above actors. wait for it....
news from the second day (yesterday) even though it was a shorter day, it was the BEST day i have to say. i was called in as 'extra' for detective on this day. and WELL, i played a REAL extra as a detective in a 'real' scene with the main actors of the show. this i have to say was AWESOME. luckily i didn't have any lines (extras ever rarely do) and i can't yet tell you what i did until the episode airs of course but WOW that was fun. even if i'm a simple blur on the screen OR if my scene is cut...i.don't.care. the experience alone was enough to make me happy. EEEEEK.
here are some photos from the set on the 2nd day with all the new peeps i met. some very amazing people when you spend that much time together, we had a really good time.

here we are all dressed up and ready to go.

someone captured this one of me.

this is new friend matt getting suited up to break down a door. he was very excited about this.

this was earlier in the day when we were getting our props.

we weren't allowed to be up close and personal when the door was getting broken down.
i have to say, it was a GREAT experience and something i'm so glad that i got to do. i may never get another call back, and that will be okay, the experience alone was priceless.
on a funnier note: we were asked to send in TWO photos of ourselves with the application. as most of you know, i'm usually the one BEHIND the camera and every RARELY have photos taken of me....PLUS, i had just chopped off all my hair...missing my long hair but probably a good thing if they chose me based on my photos...ha! i wasn't going to show you the photos but i will. the second day on the set, i was told by the Extras Casting Coordinator that i was chosen because i looked like i had my act together and that i looked like i had it under control. okay, WOW...because here are the two photos i sent in:

BEFORE the haircut and eyes CLOSED no less - photo taken in september.

AFTER haircut in october before i left colorado. uh huh, sure, i look like i have my act together. don't get me wrong. it was a HUGE compliment but good grief, these are not the two photos that i would say represent having it 'under control'. but i'll take it!
thanks for letting me share my experience.
p.s. i can NOW say that i'm not a detective but i play one on TV....i know you knew that was coming!
cheers to great weekend!
