ah, the holidays are fast approaching...
*warning*: possible ranting ahead...
and while i may not be too thrilled about them approaching so fast, thanks to the "Fra-gee-lay" economy, i do look forward to most things that the holidays can/will offer. this year will be simple. simple as that. my gifts will be handmade and those of good will. i will cherish tradition to the highest level, as i do each holiday. note to self: set up tiVo to record all vintage holiday movies
[Mr. Parker reads a side of the box with the prize that he won]
Mr. Parker:
Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian.
Mrs. Parker:
Uh, I think that says FRAGILE, dear.
Mr. Parker:
Oh, yeah.
have you seen ali's list for simplifying + organizing for the holidays! she compiled reader's comments and added some of her own for a stress-free, simple, holiday season. the list is fantastic. it reminds me to be thankful for what i do have and can offer.
[in a Chinese restaurant]
Waiter #1, Waiter #2, Waiter #3:
[singing] Deck the halls with boughs of horry, ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra.
Chop Suey Palace Owner:
No, no, not 'ra ra ra ra', 'la la la la'! Try again.
Waiter #1, Waiter #2, Waiter #3:
Deck the halls with boughs of horry, ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra.
Chop Suey Palace Owner:
No, no! Sing something else.
Waiter #1, Waiter #2, Waiter #3:
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sreigh!
NOW if i can just get past society's evil plan to continuously "commercialize" the holidays, i think i might be okay...
Ralphie as Adult:
[narrating]
Strange. Even something as momentous as the Scut Farkus affair, which
it came to be known, was pushed out of my mind as I struggled to come
up with a way out of the impenetrable BB gun web, in which my mother
had me trapped.
Ralphie:
Santa. Yeah, I'll ask Santa.
Ralphie as Adult:
[narrating] Of course. Santa. The big man. The head honcho. The connection. Ha, my mother had slipped up this time.
what's your favorite holiday movie?
p.s. lucky folks who live in ohio, did you know that the house from "a christmas story" has been restored and can be visited for touring - lucky ducks!
